  • From the section of “Japanese-arcades-we-have-been-missing-forever” we have Sun Seibu (サンセイブ) arcade from the south part of the central area (Chubu). This is the arcade that recently published a controversial matchup chart with Deejay placed as #2 and other things not very common among other areas. Kawashima Boxer or Kenshiro Deejay are two players from that arcade that might sound familiar to you, although both of them play so many characters. There is also an ITO uppercase that has nothing to do with the Ito Deejay from Nagoya. They occasionally have visits from other Chubu players like Wani!K Honda, Tasaka Cammy or Nakamu Honda/Blanka. For the last 3 years they have been running monthly east vs west format events, all of them uploaded at Pikku Claw’s channel. However, he stopped posting 6 months ago and since then it’s all uploaded at Tetsu Sagat’s channel. Besides the team tournaments they also do FT5s. We are going to list here only the ones posted in the last month:
    1. Kuma Ryu vs Wani!K Honda. Video
    2. Mikan ChunLi vs Satan Deejay. Video
    3. Kawashima Boxer vs Haku Cammy. Video
    4. Otto Guile vs Nakamu Ken. Video
    5. Wakki Ken vs Harada Ken. Video
    6. Mikan ChunLi vs Isimorn Claw as guest. Video

Japan

  • Star Cup Tournament is confirmed to happen in 2019 and it will also have many qualifiers in the main 3 areas of Japan. Last time something of this sort happened was in 2014. The format seems to be even closer to the American style of tournaments: FT3 with possible counter picks although we are still not sure if the players are forced to say what characters they are going to use in the tournament beforehand. There were 5 qualifiers run in one week alone. We are going to list both the results and the upcoming qualifiers:
    1. January 14 @ Neyagawa ABC in Osaka. Final: KKY (Dhalsim/Boxer) vs Hazi (DeeJay/O.Hawk). Annotations in video description.

    10. Finals: February 23 @ Space Shuttle in Nagoya.
  • Special singles tournament at Space Shuttle (Chubu). Japanese ‘brutal’ singles format with FT1. Final between Yondaime Old Sagat and ARG Claw. The old school players might be happy to see the final outcome.
  • An FT10 from the X-Count series run at the Enpara arcade in Osaka (Kansai). Gunze Zangief vs Wada Sagat. For some reason it was played back in November but published now.

  • We have been missing the ranking battle run in Brazil since they use facebook live video and it’s not in our radar. Players from Argentina have also joined in some of the sessions and the commentators in the videos speak in both Spanish and Portuguese. Also with Fran Boxer from Italy (aka Fran3s) as a guest who apparently participated in the last 4Fox tournament as well. Annotations in video description. [source: GSV youtube channel]
  • Game Newton Ooyama special team tournament (Kanto). Team tournament with the presence of some inactive players showing up, like Shiki Boxer and Inomata Hawk, one of the best Hawks from the late 2000s and the player who discovered the Sako tick (there used to be two Inomata Hawk players so we hope we are talking about the right one). Update: We have been told this is his little brother “Inomata Ototo” and not the one we were referring to. Annotations in video description. [source: Ooyama nico channel]

  • More footage from Japanese arcades we weren’t aware of. This time coming from an arcade at Kanazawa at the very north of the central area (Chubu). They run a tournament 3 weeks ago but they don’t have any frequent ST even there. Name players are written in Japanese on screen. There is a top player in the video named Roku ロク (Honda). He used to play big tournaments a few years ago but now he is only playing locally. Japanese players consider him one of the top Hondas in Japan along with Kusumondo and Shogatsu. Nakamu Honda uses his name sometimes as an homage (he uses his color as well which makes it very confusing).
