X-News Week #51 (October 8th-14th, 2018)

America

  • This Saturday is the very last ToL3 qualifier at East Coast Throwdown in NJ. Bracket.
  • Tournament of Legends III event will be next week at Canada Cup finally! 97 players already registered for the on-site qualifiers (minus the already classified players).
  • Monday Night Fightcade @ Arkadeum run their #99 weekly event with Kela420 and H-Zero in the finals. Bracket | Video

Japan

  • X-er major took place last weekend at Big-One arcade (Kanto). The format of this tournament is a 2vs2 and only those players who never won a major before are allowed to participate. Europe

  • XSB Tournament took place last weekend. Koemon FeiLong was the MVP of the tournament taking both solo and teams. The top European team formed by Zagi, Balcork and Spinalblood also had an outstanding performance by sending the Japanese team to losers. The videos were uploaded to youtube super fast.   • Right after the XSB tournaments there were a series of FT5 exhibition matches between Japanese players and European players: Murasaki vs Spinalblood (video), Koemon vs Spinalblood (video), Murasaki vs Zarghatt (video), Koemon vs Myco (video), Kawasim vs Myco (video), Zarghatt vs TMF (video).
  • World Warriors will be hosting an ST tournament in Manchester (UK) this Saturday. More info
  • An unknown organization who is keeping their identity hidden for now is organizing an event in Europe. There are some teasers in their newly created twitter account.

Others

  • WydD is back to continue his extensive input lag analysis. This time he includes the numbers for the CPS2 version. A detailed article will come soon as well.
  • The legendary undamned is working on a mini project called InfiniKey-CPS2. He is using the recently discovered method to inject the security key into the RAM and making it as a nice polished product. With this PCB we can forget about replacing batteries in our CPS2s.

X-News Week #50 (October 1st-7th, 2018)

America

  • As most of you already heard Primera Airlines went bankrupt which affected many european players who had the ticket to go to the Tournament of Legends III. One of the strongest European players Max31 Cammy won’t be able to find a workaround and his qualifier spot will be added now as one of the on site qualifiers. DGV Ryu won’t be able to make it to the finals either and has been replaced by Millertime Honda. More info
  • Shogatsu has been announced as the 5th Japanese invite for ToL3. A teaser was also posted last week for a mysterious 6th Japanese invite. By the time of this writing the mysterious fighter has already been announced but to avoid spoilers we’ll leave the link here: 6th Japanese announcement.
  • Wednesday Night Fights is back and was streamed last week with a special guest, Sean Claw, who’s lived in Thailand recently. Twitch archive video
  • Monday Night Fightcade @ Arkadeum run their #98 weekly event with RenoMD Dictator and Scuzbucket ChunLi in the finals. Bracket | Video
  • The community in Argentina is not skipping a single week and run another event with XonX and NostraX in the final. It will be soon uploaded to their youtube channel. Stream video | Bracket
  • Arcadegameplay group in Brazil are joining to the commitment of doing regular ST events. They streamed their first online ranking and posted it on youtube. Video

Japan

  • The guys at Space Shuttle (Chubu) posted the team tournament they run after the special FT10 of last week. Superstar Boxer and Prince ChunLi also were the team captains of this event and coincidently they played the decisive team match of the event as well. Yondaime confirms his new commitment to play Old Sagat instead of New Sagat for the time being. Video
  • Gamespot Versus weekly team tournament (Kanto). Usually the teams are formed from the weakest player to the strongest ones. However, this week they did some sort of random order which makes strong players go earlier than expected. In any case, Kawasim Dhalsim did a 22 win streak which is very unusual.   • Gamespot Versus 3vs3 special (Kanto), with many strong players from Tokyo. The decisive match is between Shal Boxer and Aoba Claw. Annotations in video description. [source: GSV youtube channel]
  • North vs South weekly team tournament #98 from the HL-SEGA arcade (Kansai). Otochun and Aniken face each other in the decisive match. Player name annotations on screen both in Japanese and English. The image is not well adjusted for the first half of the video.
  • Ko-hatsu arcade (Kansai) run their monthly tournament #78 (it was actually two weeks ago but we missed it). The usual strong players from Osaka are supposed to be there.   • LiangHuBBB has published another great compilation video. Unlike other compilation videos, he usually puts footage from all the communities in the world, online and offline, new and old. Video

  • Kusumondo has been announced as the 4th Japanese invite for ToL3. new belt
  • Monday Night Fightcade @ Arkadeum run their #97 weekly event with Real Decoy and H-Zero in the finals. Bracket | Video
  • Psychochronic posted a recent set of casuals played in Canada with him Dogberry, Unessential, Redeyeguy, Pestro, and other special guests. No annotations.

  • Norcal Crabattle was hosted last weekend in Belmont, CA featureing ST. Unfortunately with no videos. Info
  • Early Bird registration for Northeast Championships (mid-December) is now open.
  • The community in Argentina streamed a special event called “Desafios” with series of FT15 and other similar challenges. Another big announcement is that the major VS Series (beginning of November) will incorporate ST as one of their games. They made a trailer to announce it.

Japan

  • As MAO announced recently, the guys at Space Shuttle (Chubu) have joined the trend of making FT10s (Kemonomichi event). Finally, the video between Prince ChunLi and Superstar Boxer has been released. Played on September 23. According to the description both players have been training for this for about a month. Video

  • One of the two big European team events on Fightcade this year is going to be streamed on Saturday, October 6 at LaDOSETV channel (9pm CEST) and commented by Isimorn and Zartghatt. It is a 20vs20 match that has been played in the last months and put together now for you to see. Trailer
  • XSB Tournament had many more big players signing up from the UK: Orf, Kaosflare, GolcarJack, Vile-Island as well as Spinalblood from Italy. There will be 7 players coming from Spain. In total, a third of the total list is coming from countries outside of France which is probably a new record.
  • LaDOSEnet posted the footage of their last ranking battle #607 which they do monthly in Lyon. Top 6 video | Top 3 video | Brackets | Blog post
  • The guys from Navarcade in Spain run a few events in the last weeks both in Murchante, Zaragoza and Madrid. One of the finals played in one of those events was recorded and commented by Marcade (who btw also posted a recent video about reaching 1M points in ST)
  • Rival Scenes Major in the UK has announced that it will include ST as one of the main games for 2019. Signups are already open.

Others

  • The event Hong Kong Retro Gaming Expo organized a series of tournaments and ST was one of them. They posted the video of the finals on facebook.
  • Gwenroc has posted a video about how to build the Multi CPS2 Darksoft. Content in French.

  • An ST tournament was held at Star69 Garage Arcade in Austin TX last weekend. With American bat top sticks and unfortunately with no videos. Info
  • The community in Argentina posted the video of their last league matches (top 8).

Japan

  • An FT5 coming from MAO-db at Space Shuttle arcade between Nakamu Blanka and Futachan Ryu. Strongly recommended. Video
  • More treats for Blanka fans with a Komoda Kumite that is 3 and a half hours long. The matches are played in Osaka so most opponents are top players like Gunze, Otochun, Aniken, Mayakon, etc. No sound nor annotations. Video

  • Gamespot Versus weekend special (Kanto). The format this week is a Guile vs Ryu only. In the first lap you can see players with their main as such but in the second lap they switch characters.   • Up to 20 participants (new record) gathered last week at Extra Life Cafe in Paris. Really good news for those who wanted to see the Paris community revive. They also managed to stream the content. Amazing performance from Max31 Cammy. Bracket | Stream
  • The upcoming XSB tournament had a sudden 4th Japanese player signing up. The player himself asked to not reveal his identity until the day of the tournament so he will remain as the “Mystery Japanese player” for now.

Others

  • NKI has returned to the scene with a new combo video volume (number XII). The last one he published was 10 years ago. This time he dissected ST with the help of other people in the community. The result is really impressive. Video | Direct Download | Transcript (recommended reading)
  • Damdai has recently revealed in one of his streams a trick for shotos to consistently avoid meaty Sagat (old and new) tiger shots. The trick was not so known in the community until now. The trick is as simple as jumping back on wake up. He says he noticed that watching a Yondaime match in the recent X-EST tournament. Demo
  • The ST community in Singapore started posting videos on youtube of their meetups. One very good thing of these videos is that they are all annotation (in video description)
  • Daniel James created a poster for CPS2 fans. In his own words: “As a graphic designer, I wanted to capture this, and so I made this poster which is free for download. All I had to go on were random wiki articles, old forums and some bits from the old manuals, which originally left a lot to be desired visually. I felt the CPS2 is worthy of a poster. It’s sized at 18×24″ so it should print up to that size. Long live our CPS2 boards“. Download
  • @konosuke on twitter has found a way to revive dead cps2 boards without the need of replacing batteries nor touching the ROMS. In this case he found a way to inject the security key at boot time into the RAM. Another major accomplishment for hardware and CPS2 lovers. Tweets (1, 2, 3)

  • Murasaki Dictator has been announced as the third Japanese invite for Tournament of Legends III.

  • Sige Blanka is organizing one of the top online tournaments in Europe called King of Fightcade 2018. The 18 participating players have been preselected to play during some weeks: Max31, Balcork, Zagi, Wolmar, Milanea, Myco, Oldsamir, Bansheebot, Er Commander, Shari, 41i45, FortEuropa, DJ-Sylenth, Pijo80, Quenellier, Kouni, Spiritmad, Shari, FortEuropa. X-News Week #45 (August 27th-September 2nd, 2018)

North America

  • JoshC Claw qualified for Tournament of Legends III at the SummerJam tournament. The final was against SuperrV Boxer. Video | Brackets
  • SCR qualifier will take place in LA on September 15 at 12pm with Top 8 at 9pm. Pools will be streamed by silentscope88 with Top 8 on the LevelUpLive.
  • Undead_Kaiju organized a kumite on Twitch along with a fundraiser for the player Toshin who spent the whole EVO tournament with a severe eye infection. The goal was reached in less than 20 minutes.
  • IFixMachine arcade in New York have set their schedule for ST in the coming weeks for Thursday and Friday night. It’s still not clear if all these sessions will be streamed in their channel.
  • Monday Night Fightcade is back with their weekly tournaments. #93 edition with Rakanishu Blanka in really good shape playing against H-Zero in the finals. Bracket | Video

  • Few weeks ago, Aniken went to the Pythagoras arcade located in the south region of Kansai. He made a special Kumite and made some sort of bet (we couldn’t translate it properly) against whoever was able to beat him. Annotations are in video description. After the offical Kumite Aniken keeps playing against everyone. In total, there are 3 hours straight of him that you can watch if you want to see one of the finest shotos of this planet.   • Rescued footage of 3 series of 10 games played in the recently closed Mat Mouse arcade. Sashishi Ryu vs Mattsun Ken. Played on May 7, 2018.
  • One thing we have been missing in these weekly reports are the monthly Ko-Hatsu tournaments in Osaka (Kansai). They used to put brackets and pictures in their website but not anymore. However, they take a picture of their hand made bracket and post it on twitter.   • As they do every year, XStreetBattle has released their goodies section with things you can buy related to the game or the tournament.

  • GolcarJack has released a small chart of how Guile cr.mp works against other characters.
  • The legendary NKI is back and he is planning to release a Volume XII of his combo video series. He is already posting image previews in his twitter account.
  • There are some videos being posted on facebook about a manga called High Score Girl Thank where they feature ST being played in the arcade with actual footage from the game. Rumors say that TMF and TZW helped recording the game footage to include it in the cartoon.
  • There is an online tool called StretchSite which is very convenient if you want to watch ST videos that have been recorded in 16:9 but want to view it in the original arcade 4:3 ratio. Example

  • Amuseum Kusatsu Game Center will be closing their doors by the end of the month. It wasn’t a known arcade (located just in between Osaka and Nagoya) but most of the big players from Chubu and Kansai decided to go there for a farewell tournament. +30 players with Shogatsu, Murasaki, MAO, KKY, Fujimon and many others were present.   • Kawasim Dhalsim has been announced as the third and final Japanese invite for the XSB tournament (13-14 October) in Lyon. It will be his first time outside of Japan. The final list of Japanese invites are Murasaki Dictator, Koemon FeiLong and Kawasin Dhalsim.

  • Monday Night Fightcade run the final top 8 of the online qualifier for Tournament of Legends III. The final was between the two players from Mexico Yito2k Dhalsim and Hokuto Claw with Hokuto taking the win. Bracket | Video | Results
